Thomas Strunz reckons that Spain will be too hot to handle during the Euro 2012
The 1996 Euro winner with Germany, Thomas Strunz, believes that Spain will be too hot to handle in the upcoming Euro 2012. He has identified the reigning champions are firm favourites to retain their title. The former midfielder also commented on Germany’s
chances in the upcoming competition.
Having previously talked about his former club, Bayern Munich, Strunz has now shifted his focus towards the DFB-Eleven. He considered current German side as the ‘best’ in last two decades and feels they have a good chance to win the title this time around.
Strunz reckoned that Joachim Low’s men have the ability to beat a unit like Spain but warned them of the Spaniards' outburst. He told that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Germany-c2904 and both teams could possibly meet in the final.
The former Germany international applauded the white shirts on having an outstanding qualification campaign. This is also the first time that any German team has qualified for the finals with a hundred percent record. Thomas wished best of luck to the players and urged them to maintain the same form and consistency in the main event.
While talking to Goal.com regarding Germany’s chances, the 43-year-old further added:
"If we are mentally prepared, if the team really believes in the title, then it is possible. It's amazing how we played in our great qualifying campaign. Even in games when it no longer mattered, which I found quite remarkable.”
He also stated: “The team must internalise this belief that they can win the title. In the end we also need luck. Every team that ever won a title at a tournament has been lucky at some point. A late goal or a win on penalties, or otherwise."
