The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/1-FSV-Mainz-05-c38166 manager is concerned with the team’s injury problems and admits it could cost the team when the Bundesliga resumes.
FSV Mainz are currently 14th on the Bundesliga standings table with 18 points from the first-half of the campaign. The season so far has been disappointing for Tuchel’s side, who have been under par after an impressive
fifth place finish in the previous campaign.
The Carnival Club has recently been plagued with injury problems to some of the main players. With the Bundesliga set to resume in a week’s time, it may be a huge problem for Mainz. The club is already struggling to avoid the drop
at the end of the season and cannot afford to lose any more games after the league resumes this week.
Thomas Tuchel’s side have had virtually no activity in the January transfer window in comparison to other struggling sides like http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/SC-Freiburg-c40462 and FC Augsburg which could be another negative. The manager admitted that the injuries
have definitely affected the preparations for the second-half of the campaign as a lot of first-team players are absent.
The boss admitted that the team has to improve in the second phase of the league campaign and missing some of the main players would not help their cause.
“We have hit the lowest point in our preparation in terms of physical condition. Therefore, I have to see things very realistically - that means it was as bad as it looked,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
Tuchel remained hopeful that the injury problems are minor and that the players return to training as soon as possible so that they could contribute. The team is also without start striker Sami Allagui, who is with his national
side, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Tunisia-c3025, for the African Cup of Nations.
“I just hope that all of our injuries are minor. It's really hit us hard,” he concluded.
FSV Mainz will next face Bayer Leverkusen at the BayArena on Sunday, January 22, in search for their fifth win of the season. The side has managed to win only four times in the 17 games played thus far and suffered seven losses.
