Thomas Ulrich, the former EBU (European) light heavyweight champion, recently shared his thoughts about his upcoming bout against young Dustin Dirks and commented that Dirks is a quality pugilist and cannot be underestimated at all adding that he possesses
the traits of being a future star of the division.
Ulrich is scheduled to make a comeback against surging fellow countryman Dustin in an eight-round bout which will be televised on May 5, 2012. The bout will be on the undercard of the pay-per-view headlined by the WBO cruiserweight bout between Marco Huck
and Ola Afolabi.
The Saturday night event will be co-headlined by another championship bout between Alexander Dimitrenko and Kubrat Pulev. Thomas, 36, is a veteran who has been in a total 38 bouts and recently recuperated from a serious eye injury.
The Berliner was meant to return in a bout on January 14, 2012 but due to the inadvertent injury that occurred during the sparring session, Thomas forfeited the bout. Ulrich while recalling the injury commented, “It was a fracture to my orbital cavity. It
looked worse than it actually was. But of course I was not able to step into the ring. Fortunately I did not have to rest too much and I was able to continue with my running training.”
Ulrich has been in a total 38 bouts and emerged victorious in 32. He has nailed 22 of his opponents by knockout and boasts wins over many big names in addition to the honour of holding various titles round his waist.
While sharing his thoughts about Dustin, Thomas remarked, “He is a tough kid, maybe even the rising star in the division.” Dustin, 23, is a surging young German pugilist who also hails from Berlin and boasts an intimidating undefeated win streak in a total
23 bouts.
The young lad has nailed 17 of his opponents by knockout and surprisingly has never been in a title bout. During the media interaction, Dustin iterated that he will not take Thomas lightly adding that his previous defeats might be a slight setback for him
but the veteran is still a talented and agile brawler who can throw and connect fast powerful jabs.
Dirks remarked, “He probably just had a bad day during his last fight. It could be a whole different thing when he squares off with me. Ulrich is very agile. He is also capable off throwing some fast punches.”
The ring for the bout will be stretched at Messehalle situated in Erfurt, Thuringen, Germany and will be promoted by the duo of Wilfried Sauerland of Sauerland Event and Ulf Steinforth of Sport Events Steinforth.
