http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Thomas-Vermaelen-c35002 went on to admit that he struggled in the first half against the Greek side, Olympiakos and feels that he could have played a whole lot better in the game.
Despite Vermaelen feeling the pressure, the Gunners went on to win their game. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gervinho-c14755 opened the scoring in the game, but the visitors went on to equalize before the first half came to a close.
In the second half, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Aaron-Ramsey-c3065 latched onto an Olivier Giroud header to lob the keeper.
As a result, the Gunners went on to win their game by three goals to one at the end of the ninety minutes. This win also sees the team six points from the two games that they have played in the Champions league so far, with them already looking to be a whole
lot stronger than they were last season.
When talking about the game, the Belgian international is reported to have said:
"Yeah I think in the first half [it was a struggle]," Vermaelen told Sky Sports.
"The second half was better, but in the first half we were a little bit sloppy in the passing, we lost a lot of balls. We started well, but the first half was not great."
He added: "We started well, a high tempo - that was great, but afterwards we dropped a little. I don't think it was because of the weekend but sometimes that can happen. He continued: "It gives us a lot of confidence, getting six out of six [points]. That's
really important.”
The defender then went on to praise the performances of the team’s players, while hailing Gervinho who seems to have finally found the right form for the Gunners.
The Ivorian has managed to score five goals with five shots on target this season, which is quite impressive, given the fact that he only scored four goals last time around.
Nonetheless, with Arsenal looking to prove their worth this season, and with them coming out with all guns blazing, it is only a matter of time before they assert their authority in Europe.
