Thomas Voeckler who was looking good at the Tour de France, 2011 and was a serious contender for the final general classifications at the mega tour might have left few of his fans heartbroken but never the less finishing fourth during the mega tour was enough
for the home crowd to cheer for the Frenchman. He wore the leader’s jersey in the race for 10 days from stage 10-19.
The 32-year-old finished the Tour de France 2011 at fourth position with 3 minutes and 20 seconds behind the race leader Cadel Evans as he wore the leader’s jersey for 10 days consecutively from stage 10-19. He is ready to come in action again as Voeckler
is participating in the four day stage race Tour du Poitou-Charentes starting on August 23, 2011.
Thomas Voeckler won the GP Montreal and the GP Quebec won last year as he confirmed that he will be saving himself for the World Championships this year and will not participate at the GP Montreal and the GP Quebec.
Voeckler earned enormous amount of popularity during the grand Tour de France as the French audience was waiting for a French performance since a long time. Despite his fame during the Tour the Frenchman decided to keep a low profile as he has not been making
any news at all.
Thomas commented about the time he has spent after the Tour de France as he said, “If you haven’t seen me on the television since the Tour de France, it’s because that's how I wanted it.” He added, “My tranquillity is at stake. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not
Zidane either, but life isn’t about seeing 50 people a day who tell you ‘well done.’”
He is hopeful to get fruitful results for Europcar at the Tour de Poitou and is optimistic about his performance as he mentioned that he is keen to get back on his bike as he said, “Yes, I really want to race, I’m hyper motivated.”
Tour de Poitou will start with a 184.2 kilometre stage 1 from Sugeres to Cognac and Voeckler will be leading the Team Europcar along with Giovanni Bernaudeau, Sebastien Chavanel, Mathieu Claude, Damien Gaudin, Yohann Gene, Alexandre Pichot and David Veilleux.
