Thomaz Bellucci slays Blaz Kavcic to enter pre-quarters – Credit Agricole Suisse Open 2012
Brazilian star, Thomaz Bellucci, devastated the Slovenian challenger, Blaz Kavcic, with double breadsticks at the Credit Agricole Suisse Open 2012 on Tuesday. He jolted down a 6-1, 6-1 victory against the world number 77 to progress into the round of 16
at this outdoor hard court tournament taking place in Gstaad, Switzerland.
Bellucci displayed superb skills and agility to crush the 25-year-old in straight sets in their first meeting. He required 59 minutes to not only take lead in the FedEx ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) Head 2 Head series by 1-0 against Kavcic but
also cruised into the second round at this outdoor clay court tournament.
The left-hander Brazilian entered the Credit Agricole Arena with conviction and plucked his opening serve easily. After the Slovene held his opening serve, Bellucci unleashed flurry of groundstrokes and reeled off the last five games in a row, eventually
recording the victory with an assuring 6-1 score line.
Ranked 60th in the South African Airways ATP World Tour Rankings, Bellucci kept momentum rolling into the following set. After Kavcic held his serve in the opening game, the Brazilian went into the savage mode and wiped out the next six games
successively. He was never threatened with any breakpoint and cashed in all three break chances to pocket the breadstick.
All in all, the 24-year-old formulated a lower first serve share of 53 per cent as compared to his rival’s 57 per cent but spectacularly marked 17 out of 19 points on it. He also fired three aces and finished the match with 56 points.
Next challenge for Bellucci is fourth seeded Mikhail Youzhny who received a bye into the second round after being the top four players at this tournament.
The fifth seed, Feliciano Lopez, also faced a better fate earlier that day. He nudged up a 2-6, 6-4, 7-6(7) victory against the Romanian challenger, Adrian Ungur, in almost two hours. The seeded Spaniard hammered 14 aces and required a single break of serve
to steal the show. He also manifested a better first serve share and amazingly availed 45 out of 52 points on it.
