Thomaz Bellucci stuns Kevin Anderson in round one – Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters 2012
World number 45, Thomaz Bellucci, stunned the 32nd ranked South African, Kevin Anderson, in the opening round of the Monte Carlo Rolex Masters on Tuesday. He confirmed the place in the second round of the tournament
with straight sets 6-4, 6-4 triumph.
The match only lasted an hour and 26 minutes before the Brazilian tennis ace went ahead. There was not much drama witnessed in the encounter as both players were capitalizing on their respective serve games. Anderson was the first
one to drop the serve game in the beginning that gave a lead of 2-1 to his opponent.
Bellucci was not tested at all on his serves. The match was titled in favour of him and he bagged the opening set without any sort of pressure, bagging 34 points out of 61 total points played. The only thing in which Andersen was
ahead of his rival was in the category of aces. He smashed four off them compared to just two of his competitor.
The second set started miserably for the South African. He dropped the serve game at the start and went 0-2. It was looking pretty ominous for him because Bellucci was smashing in most of his first serves and winning majority of
the points. The Brazilian only gave only a couple of opportunities to his competitor to break serve that were also saved by him. So, he was absolutely on top of his game.
There were no more breakpoints successfully converted in the second set that helped the Brazilian to record the second upset of the day. He bagged 31 points in the second half and won the battle with a difference of just six points
in the end.
The overall performance from both players was good but the consistent of the two took the glory. Bellucci will take on the fifth seed Spaniard, David Ferrer, in the second round of the tournament. It will be a very tough contest
for him considering that the Spanish number two is in classic form this year.
Earlier in the day, the French tennis ace, Michael Llodra, was ousted by the inferior ranked Italian, Fabio Fognini.
