Thomaz Bellucci takes down Lukas Rosol to reach the second round – BNP Paribas Open 2012
Brazilian tennis ace, Thomaz Bellucci, cleared the opening round of the BNP Paribas Open by overwhelming the 84th ranked Czech opponent, Lukas Rosol, on Friday. The unseeded Brazilian took one hour and 19 minutes of
play to conclude victory in straight sets, 6-2, 7-6(4), marching into the second round of the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) Masters 1000 event in style.
The contest was played on the hard courts of Indian Wells, California, the United States, with the Brazilian number one exhibiting his supremacy. It was the first time that these two men went one-on-one against each other in a
singles matchup and Bellucci registered his fifth victory of the 2012 season to go 1-0 up against the Czech.
Although the 24-year-old, Bellucci, delivered merely 51 per cent of his serve on target, he banged in 10 thudding aces and secured 24 out of 31 first serve points to dispose of his inferior-ranked opponent with ease. The Brazilian
contender crafted a total of nine break points in the matchup and converted just three of them en route to victory. Rosol, on the other hand, could register merely one break point in the entire contest to finish on the losing side in the end.
Bellucci was off to a cracking start in the opening set, nailing two serve breaks right up to take the early advantage of his sloppy opponent. However, a stiff contest was witnessed in the following set but Bellucci survived the
tie-breaker round to conclude a comprehensive win.
Bellucci will have to confront the 20th seed Austrian, Jurgen Melzer, in his next encounter to claim a berth in the third round of the star-studded even in Indian Wells. The former top-tenner, Melzer, received a bye
to the second round of the BNP Paribas Open and will play his opening match against Bellucci on Sunday. Melzer won an ATP World Tour 500 championship title in Memphis last month and is in his supreme form at the moment. It won’t be easy for the Brazilian number
one to take down the belligerent Austrian in the second round but an enthralling encounter is already anticipated between the two.
