Born on December 30, 1987 in the city of Tiete, Thomaz Cocchiarali Bellucci is a professional tennis player from Brazil. The 22-year-old player is currently ranked number 27 in the world by the Association of Tennis Professionals.
The Brazilian tennis ace jumped into the top hundred ATP world rankings for the first time in 2008 at the age of just 20 years. In the following year, Thomaz made his way into his first tour final at the Brasil Open and captured his first crown at the Swiss
Open competition. The left hander grabbed his second trophy in Chile this year at the Movistar Open.
As far as this year is concerned, the professional tennis player from Brazil participated in the Brisbane International ATP Championship which served as his first competition of the season. He did well to make his way into the quarter-final round of the
tournament where the Brazilian was ousted by Czech tennis opponent Tomas Berdych in a total of three sets. The final match score was 6-7(4), 6-2 and 6-7(3).
At the Heineken Open in Auckland, he was defeated by Philipp Kohlschreiber in the second round of the competition after defeating Marco Chiudinelli in the opening round clash. The final match score was 6-4, 6-1.
The Sao Paulo resident then competed at the year’s opening major event, the Australian Open where Thomaz couldn’t surpass the second round as he was hammered by Andy Roddick in straight sets.
Bellucci then entered the Latin America clay court championship, the 2010 Movistar Open where he made it into the semi-final rounds in Chile. In the semis, the Brazilian got the better of defending champion Fernando Gonzalez in straight sets to reach the
title battle where he outperformed Juan Monaco to win the trophy.
In the 2010 Brasil Open, this 1.88 meters tall player was overpowered by Ricardo Mello in the quarter-final round in straight sets. Thomaz then played at the 2010 Abierto Mexicano Telcel where the Brazilian was defeated by ultimate winner David Ferrer in
the second round. The final match score was 6-4, 6-1.
In the 2010 BNP Paribas Open competition, Bellucci after receiving a first round bye and second round walk over, was dismissed in the third at the hands of Guillermo Garcia Lopez in a three setter clash. The final match score was 4-6, 6-2 and 6-1.
In the 2010 Sony Ericsson Open, Thomaz managed to upset his American tennis opponent, James Blake in the second round after which he went on to defeat Olivier Rochus. However, he lost in a tight clash in the fourth round to Nicolas Almagro. The final match
score was 6-4, 3-6 and 7-6(3).
The Brazilian tennis player continued his good form at the French Open tennis tournament as well. He made his way into the fourth round where Thomaz was eventually beaten by world number one Rafael Nadal in a total of three sets. The final match score was
2-6, 5-7 and 4-6. The match concluded in a time of two and a half hours at Roland Garros. Thomaz, on his way to round four, got the better of Ivan Ljubicic, Pablo Andujar as well as Michael Llodra.
At the Wimbledon Championships 2010, Thomaz Cocchiarali Bellucci made his way into the third round where he was beaten by Robin Soderling of Sweden in straight sets.
The world number 27 started the season’s final Grand Slam, the United States Open quite promisingly by defeating American player Tim Smyczek in the opening round. The final match score was 6-3, 7-5 and 7-6(6). However, the Brazilian succumbed in a five setter
epic in the next round in New York. The final match score was 6-7(4), 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 and 7-6(2).
