Thongchai Jaidee aims for a victory at the Venetian Macau Open
The three-time Asian Tour Order of Merit winner Thongchai Jaidee of Thailand plans to record the 14th Asian Tour victory of his career, when he tees off at this week’s Venetian Macau Open.
The US$750,000 event will be played at the Macau Golf and Country Club, from October 11 to 14, 2012.
Jaidee currently ranks second in the highest number of wins recorded by a player on the Asian Tour. He has a total of 13 Asian Tour victories added to his resume.
His compatriot Thaworn Wiratchant currently holds the record of the most wins on the tour with 14. Jaidee, in the meantime, holds the record of earning the highest prize money during his career with over US$4 million.
He is currently enjoying a great form and wants to keep the momentum going into the rest of the tournaments this season.
Earlier in June, he won the fifth European Tour title of his career at the ISPS Handa Wales Open. However, he still remains winless on the Asian Tour this year, despite coming close to victories a number of times.
His last win on the Asian circuit came in 2010, when he outshined his opponents at the Johnnie Walker Cambodian Open. Since then, he has not been able to raise a single trophy in Asia.
This week, he wishes to end the title drought with a victory in the event that he last played 11 years ago.
“It’s nice to be back. I’ve not been here for over 10 years. The course is very challenging. When it is windy, it will be difficult to play. It wasn’t in my plans to play here but I received an invitation from the sponsors and I’m glad I came,” he said.
For the most part this year, he has not been able to participate in the events because of different injury issues. According to him, he now feels completely fit and ready to match Wiratchant’s record of most wins on the tour.
“After my injury, I didn’t practice much. I think I was hungry to play again. I performed quite well last week. I’m excited about this week. I’m always trying to win. If I don’t win, I’ll try again,” he said.
