Thongchai Jaidee commits to play the Asian Tour’s Iskandar Johor Open
Thailand’s Thongchai Jaidee has been added to the field of the 2012 Iskandar Johor Open, presented by Iskandar Waterfront, slated to start from December 13, 2012.
For the third time in a row, the US$2 million (RM 6.2 million) event will be played at the Horizon Hills Golf and Country Club, Johor, featuring some of the best players on the Asian Tour.
The tournament will be the last of the Asian Tour roster and the winner of the Order of Merit will be decided at the end of the event.
Therefore, it is obvious that the top-ranked players on the Asian Tour will definitely be participating in the event.
That is the reason why Y.A.B. Dato’ Abdul Ghani Bin Othman, Chairman of the Iskandar Johor Open organising committee and Chief Minister of Johor, is also expecting to attract some of the best players from all over the world to the event in Malaysia.
Ghani said, “With much at stake as the season-ending event on the Asian Tour, we are anticipating one of our strongest line-ups ever”.
He continued, “The coveted Asian Tour Order of Merit crown will be confirmed at the Iskandar Johor Open and therefore, the results at Horizon Hills will have a big impact on who takes the top spot for the 2012 season”.
Jaidee, the three-time Asian Tour Order of Merit winner, is currently enjoying a great form on the Asian Tour.
Apart from his great run on the Asian circuit, he also recorded a victory on the European Tour, when he took home the ISPS Handa Wales Open title in June.
The only concern for him is to turn his close finishes on the Asian Tour to victories. Earlier this season, Thaworn Wiratchant recorded the 14th Asian Tour victory of his career and became the only player to reach that mark.
Therefore, Jaidee should look for his winning touch and match his compatriot’s record, till the end of the 2012 season.
Despite the fact the he no more holds the record of the most wins on the tour, he still has the highest amount of earnings, with over US$4 million.
Therefore, he is no doubt one of the strongest additions to the 120-man field of one of the biggest tournaments on the Malaysian soil.
The 23-time professional winner Sergio Garcia, who also won a crucial point in the singles match for the European Ryder Cup team earlier this month, has also confirmed to participate in the event. It will be the Spaniard’s first ever start in the Iskandar
Johor Open.
Dutchman Joost Luiten, who won the last year’s edition of the tournament, is once again expecting to finish off his 2012 campaign on a high note, by performing well in the season-ending competition.
