Thongchai Jaidee feels tired because of delays at the Horizon Hills Golf and Country Club
Thongchai Jaidee of Thailand carded a one-under par 71, in the delayed second round of the Iskandar Johor Open, to remain in contention at the Horizon Hills Golf and Country Club.
The Iskandar Johor Open is the last tournament on the Asian Tour roster, offering a total prize fund of US$2 million, to the participants.
The 13-time Asian Tour winner fired a six-under par 66 in the opening round, to mark a confident start to his campaign in Malaysia.
He then got off to a decent start on day two, as he carded a 34 on the back nine of the course.
Thereafter, he lost control over his game and conceded bogeys on two of the first four holes that he played on the front nine, prior to the inclement weather forced the game to be suspended.
Talking to the Asian Tour’s official website after the suspension of the game on Friday, he said that he was feeling tired because of the delays.
According to him, the playing conditions were getting difficult because of the heavy rains at the venue course.
“I’m happy with the way I played but I felt tired because of the suspensions,” he said. It was quite difficult to play on the course because the fairways are a bit wet. The greens are okay. I played very solid. I think I played about 30 holes. I woke up
at 5.15am and it will be the same tomorrow!”
He then had to return to the field, early in the Saturday morning, in order to complete his second round. The remaining five holes witnessed him record two birdies against a lone bogey to post a seven-under par two-round score.
Sweden’s Daniel Chopra, in the meantime, set the clubhouse lead, midway through the second round, after firing a 10-under par two-round score.
Chopra carded a four-under par 68 in the opening round and followed that with a brilliant 66 in round two, to stun his opponents on the course.
Right from the beginning of the tournament, he has been playing decent golf, allowing him to card 11 birdies against just a lone bogey.
