Thongchai Jaidee finishes tied sixth at the Ballantine’s Open
Thongchai Jaidee fired a seven-under par 65, in the final round of the Ballantine’s Open, to finish tied for the sixth position on the leaderboard, on Sunday, April 28, 2013.
Ballantine’s Open was co-sanctioned by the European Tour and the Asian Tour, featuring some of the best players from different parts of the world.
Entering the final round, Jaidee was positioned at the 44th position on the leaderboard. It appeared as if the Thai star will have to go back home unnoticed.
However, he gave an impression as if he saved his best shots for the final round. He started off on the back nine of the course and bogeyed the very first hole that he played.
That was the only mistake that he made on day four, as he birdied the 13th, 17th and the 18th hole to reach the turn in two-under.
The front nine of the course witnessed him playing brilliant shots on the course, which in turn, allowed him to record five birdie putts.
At the end of the day, he managed to surpass 38 players on the leaderboard, to finish among the top-10 players in the tournament.
Talking to the reporters after completing his campaign at the Blackstone Golf Club, he expressed his pleasure in making a strong comeback in the last moments of the tournament.
According to him, his excellent putting technique was the main reason behind his excellent performance in the final round.
“I’m enjoying my golf game right now. I’ve been hitting well all day and only three-putted once,” said Thongchai. “I’m quite pleased with that as the pin positions were tough and the course conditions made it hard to putt. However, it was warmer today and
that made things a lot easier”.
Brett Rumford, in the meantime, clinched the victory after recording an eagle putt on the first extra hole in the playoffs.
“It’s an honour to win anytime, and it’s only getting harder and harder. ... It’s great to be in this position today and an honour to win the Ballantine’s Championship,” said Rumford.
Marcus Fraser and Peter Whiteford were the two players who lost to Rumford in the sudden-death playoffs.
