Thongchai Jaidee shares the 17th position after the second round of the HSBC Champions
Thongchai Jaidee of Thailand carded a four-under par 68 in the second round of the fourth and the last World Golf Championship of the season, the HSBC Champions, and shared the 17th position, on Friday, November 2, 2012.
The three-time Asian Tour Order of Merit champion played a decent game throughout the second day, except a double bogey that came on the fifth hole. His round included a total of eight birdies, against two bogeys and a double bogey.
Talking to the reporters after finishing his round at the Mission Hills Golf Club, the Thai star stated that he was satisfied with his overall performance in the round.
According to him, a six-under par score after two rounds is enough to record a good finish in the tournament.
With a 10-stroke deficit against the leader, Louis Oosthuizen, he may not be able to record a victory this week.
However, he definitely has the potential to make a strong charge on the leaderboard for a top-10 finish in the tournament.
“I’m playing good. Played solid … had eight birdies, one double and two bogeys. Four under is a good round. The greens were a bit softer and you can see the low scores,” said the former paratrooper.
He added, “Two more rounds and I’ll try to get my best. The leaders are quite far away now. I’ll just keep at it, hole by hole. If I can attack, I’ll do it”.
Talking about his short game, he stated that he was struggling with his putter and missed some easy birdie chances that could have earned him a better place on the leaderboard.
“My putts were not too good today, sometimes it was tough to read the lines,” he said. “There were some double breaks. Missed short chances on 15 and 16 which is okay”.
Oosthuizen, in the meantime, was splendid with his clubs on day two. After suffering a bogey on the second hole, the South African did not look back and recorded a total of eight birdies and a sparkling eagle for a nine-under par 63.
At the end of the day, he found himself leading the field by five strokes. Ernie Els, who also recorded a sparkling 63, shared the second spot on the leaderboard, with an 11-under par overall score.
