Thongchai Jaidee upbeat about his chances at Malaysian Open – Asian Tour News
Three-time Asian Tour Order of Merit winner, Thongchai Jaidee, is all set to unleash his experience in this week’s Malaysian Open. Jaidee has thirteen Asian Tour victories in his career and is already one of the favourite to win in Malaysia.
The Thai Jaidee is coming off a back injury from which he has recovered. This will be his first Asian Tour tournament this season. He will be hoping to start on a high note by winning another one in his career.
In his recent interview, he said that he has recovered almost completely from his back injury and is ready to put up a great fight in the Malaysian Open. The tournament which is sponsored by Maybank has a prize money of US$ 2.5 million. This has already
attracted many players of rankings.
The four day tournament starting from Thursday will be played on Kuala Lumpur Golf Course.
This year’s Masters’ winner South African Charl Schwartzel, world number one Martin Kaymer and Louis Oosthuizen will also be among the contenders. This year, the tournament also celebrates its 50th anniversary. It will certainly be exciting to
watch all the top ranked players compete in the Asian conditions.
Jaidee has won this event two times in 2004 and 2005. His back injury came after the Avantha Masters in February.
The Thai veteran in his recent interview said, “I didn’t play a round of golf for almost a month but after recuperating I practised a lot and went to the gym. My back is more or less 80 per cent recovered but I’m confident it will fully recover soon.”
The 41-year-old is confident about his chances in the tournament. It will be rather tough for him this year as the top ranked players have confirmed their participation. With a star-studded field, the tournament is all set to produce some promising golf
on all the four days.
Thongchai last won the Johnnie Walker Cambodian Open last year. He played beautifully there and won his 13th Asian Tour title. This is certainly a big achievement for him as he also leads in the list of winners.
Now, this will be a challenge for him. The conditions will certainly suit him as he is used to the green courses in Asia. He will have to show his best in the four-day event to lift his third Malaysian Open title.
The Thai golfer is also happy as the top-ranked players will be competing in Asia once again. He is also the honorary Asian Tour member and keen to have more tournaments in Asia.
This is also going to be a good chance for the Asian players to compete against the best in the world. It will give more exposure for them to play competitive golf.
Along with Jaidee, his compatriots Kiradech Aphibarnrat and Thaworn Wiratchant will also be among the notable players. All eyes will be set on Jaidee as the tournament commences this week.
