Thongchai Jaidee wins the ISPS Handa Wales Open
Thongchai Jaidee won the fifth European Tour title of the ISPS Handa Wales Open, as he shot a 6-under 278 in the four-day tournament.
The 42-year-old Thai displayed a solid performance at The Celtic Manor Resort in the City of Newport, Wales.
He started the tournament on Thursday and shot an equal-par socre. He scored four birdies and bogeys in the first round. He was unable to be on the top on the first day and was seen struggling most of the day.
In the second round on Friday, his hard work helped him and he played amazingly. He shot a 3-under 68 by posting four birdies and just one bogeys throughout the day.
He was committed to the game and added a 4-under 67 in the third round of the Wales Open. He reached among the toppers of the leaderboard, made seven massive birdies and carded three bogeys as well.
Then in the final round, he was unable to score well and made a 1-over 72. The reason was a double-bogey on the hole-9 of the Celtic Manor resort.
“I want to say thank-you to all my family, all the supporters and the sponsors here," Jaidee said. "Conditions were quite tough for me. I tried to hit everything on the fairway -- that's the main thing -- then hit the ball on the green. It was very, very
tough for me, not like Thailand”.
He defeated Gonzalo Fdez-Castano by one stroke and recorded his 16th professional win. Jaidee turned professional in 1999 and won five European Tour events, 13 Asian Tour events and two Singha Bangkok Open titles in 2000 and 2001 respectively.
On the other hand, he also displayed an amazing performance at the World Golf Championships. It was the Cadillac Championship in 2006, where he finished tied for the 9th leaderboard position.
At 2010 Accenture Match Play Championship, he lost in a match play and amazed the spectators for scoring high and for competing well for the title.
Jaidee has a very bright future. His performance, scoring, putting, tee-off strokes and shots on the greens are amazing. He is among the top players and can become the proud winner in near future.
