Thor Hushovd is ‘really motivated’ for the 2013 season
After having a disappointing 2012 season, Thor Hushovd has faith to find the right form in the coming season in order to make it for the lost time.
The cyclist’s 2012 season has been dominated by injuries, crashes and sickness and he could not register even a single victory throughout the year.
He is currently suffering from a virus infection that has caused muscle inflammation and ultimately reduced his performance as announced by Team BMC earlier in September.
Team’s Medical Officer Dr. Max Testa diagnosed the problem, after he kept the Hushovd under four days of testing at the Salt Lake City Health and Fitness Institute.
"The purpose of the tests was to explain his reduced exercise tolerance that has been limiting his performance throughout the season," Testa said.
"At the end of the four days, we determined Thor suffered a post-viral syndrome with secondary myositis – or muscles inflammation”.
“His medical condition is currently improving, and a full recovery is expected for next season".
The former World Champion is anxious to get back on his bike and start winning again as he aims at the Paris-Roubaix 2013 as his biggest goal of the coming season.
“It's the head that decides, but right now I'm really motivated. I see that I have four more years. Four good years,” he told NRK.no.
The 34-year-old’s struggling form started from the Giro d’Italia when he had to abandon the race because of exhaustion and tried to mark his return at the Tour of Poland but the results were the same.
The cyclist keep pushing his legs but struggled to produce results as the viral infection was announced in September and he had no other option but to abandon his season.
Hushovd could only complete 28 days of racing in the 2012 season, “this year did not go quite as planned.” But that only gives him extra motivation for 2013, “he explained.
He has filled his bag with several victories all through his career and Paris-Roubaix is one race that is missing from his collection as he aims succeed during the 2013 version of the French race.
