Thor Hushovd targeting the Pink Jersey at the Giro d’ Italia 2012
Thor Hushovd of Team BMC has not opened his 2012 winning account and the cyclist is determined to find his winning ways at the coming version of the Giro d’ Italia.
The cyclist’s only commendable performance came during the Paris-Nice as he crossed the finish line at the fifth position during the stage 7 of the race.
Hushovd has participated in every single version of the Giro race since 2001 but has not finished the three-week stage race yet.
He is positive with his form for the coming race but also admits that he has not prepared as well this season.
The Norwegian mentioned that he never had enough time after the Paris-Roubaix but he has done enough preparation to challenge his competitors.
Thor was looking good during the Paris-Roubaix but was unfortunately caught up in a crash right after the race winner Tom Boonen launched his attack.
French Cyclist Sebastien Turgot and Alessandro Ballan of Italy occupied the second and the third positions.
The 34-year-old has never really aimed at the Giro during the past years of his career and this is the first time that he is riding the Giro with a goal in his mind.
Tour de France has always been his first priority which is the main reason behind his several stage wins at the French race.
Hushovd has filled his bag with as many as ten stage victories throughout his career and is considered as a Tour specialist.
He briefed, "The Giro d'Italia has never been a big goal for me, and this year is more complicated due to the Tour de France and Olympics".
"I will try to limit the loss of time as possible on the first day and be with so that the pink jersey is within reach in the coming days”.
"But there is still a dream and a goal to be first across the finish line on a stage in the Giro d'Italia. And since I wear so much pink, I would like to wear the jersey once or twice".
The 95th edition of the Giro d’ Italia is scheduled between May 5-27 and winner of the race will be awarded with a 170 UCI points.
The second and the third position holders will receive 130 and a 100 UCI points respectively.
