Thorbjørn Olesen leads Austrian Open
Thorbjørn Olesen has had a few good years on the European Tour. Although in 2011, he did not win any events but he finished quite high in some of them.
In 2012, he has continued his good run of form and after the victory at the Sicilian Open, things really turned around for the young Danish golfer.
At this year’s Open Championship, Olesen had his dream come true when he was paired with his child hood hero, Tiger Woods in the third round. The 22-year-old, however, could not imitate the performance of Tiger Woods but his T9 finish at the Royal Lytham
Golf Course was really amazing.
Olesen maintained his good run of form and at the Austrian Open. He is leading after the first two rounds. In the first round, he equalled the course record after shooting 64.
Currently, the Danish star is leading the tournament by three strokes. Behind him is the Frenchman, Thomas Levet.
Late on Thursday, there was a huge storm that struck the area and disrupted the play. The storm was so intense that play had to be called off. There were quite a few players who could not complete their rounds because of the storm.
The play resumed early on Friday and first preference was given to those who were yet to complete their rounds. Olesen however, managed to finish his round, along with other players leading the tournament.
Defending champion Kenneth Ferrie of England completed his round too but his over par scores mean that he is 11 shots adrift of the leader, Olesen.
Pablo Larrazabal, first round’s co leader, could not finish his round because of the bad weather. Pablo, however, could not get going in the second round for some reason. He was two-over for the round on the front nine before the weather interrupted the
play.
Olesen, at the moment, is sitting comfortably at the top and he is the favourite to lift his second title of the season.
If he is able to manage the scores of the previous rounds then he will surely be lifting the trophy. With weather a big factor now, things will get tougher as the tournament moves on.
