Thoroughbred Aggie Engineer Retires owing to Arthritis.
Thoroughbred Aggie Engineer co-owned by Roberta Williford retired this year after his race at the San Diego Handicap.
Aggie Engineer was the sixth contender to finish the Grade II race. Roberta Williford and Ward Williford, owners of Aggie Engineer decided it is best for the thoroughbred to retire.
He was the ninth thoroughbred to cross the in the same race earlier this year. In the Grade II San Antonio Handicap, he finished the race third. This clearly reflects that Aggie Engineer’s retirement was long overdue.
According to Roberta Williford, Aggie Engineer’s performance during the training sessions hinted that it is time for this thoroughbred to say goodbye to thoroughbred racing for good.
Aggie Engineer had suffered from arthritis during the curse of his racing career. He had won prize money of roughly four million from the seven races he won in the span of his career.
Another factor which contributed to his failures in the recent races is his age. Aggie Engineer is a six year old thoroughbred whereas the other contenders competing with him are one or two years younger than him.
The youth of the other contenders makes them energetic and more speedy than Aggie Engineer.
Speculating on Aggie Engineer’s performance of late, co-owner Roberta Williford said that Aggie Engineer has not been in the best of his health and that it was best for him to retire.
She added that she did not want to take chances with the thoroughbred’s health as he had served her well.
Aggie Engineer was born to dam Papalma and sire Dixieland Band in January 2005. He had been owned and bred by Roberta and Ward Williford all his life and was trained by Paddy Gallagher.
Aggie Engineer had won many races during the course of his racing career including Grade 2 San Pasqual Stakes and Grade III native Diver Handicap.
He had been ridden by two jockeys during the course of his racing career, namely, Joseph Talamo and Alex Solis.
Alex Solis rode him only for his first two races. In the rest of his races he was ridden by Joseph Talamo who has had a very illustrious five year career as well with ten victories to his name.
Aggie Engineer would surely be missed at the race tracks. Hopefully, he would foal some talented colts and fillies that would walk in their father’s steps.
