Where can I find out about what kind of money you make in the different fields of horse racing. I am doing a report for my college and career class but I have been having a hard time finding out what you make in the different fields, both business and horse side of it.(ex: jockeys, trainers, bloodstock agents, breeders and the people who handle the business sides of the track)

  1. so u want 2 know how much money u earn in careers in racing, well a jockey for instance, is difficult to pin point as it depends on the horses which their riding, but when a jockey just rides a horse in a race, even if it doesn't come any where in the place and wins no prize money they get at least 120 quid just for their survises, but when a jockey rides a horse into a place eg 1st, 2nd, 3rd and sometimes 4th. the jockey gets 10% of the prize money, so the higher the prize money the more the jockey earns, good jockeys like tony mccoy, earn tens of thousands of pounds a week and a unsuccessful, struggerling jockey can earn a grand a week.

  2. There are so many variables, that it will be hard to nail down solid figures. Talk with the GM at an area track & then see if you can be directed to a trainer, jock, etc. on the backside who can provide you with insight.

  3. Try the Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook Handbook.  I have it linked below.  They have an A-Z index and a search function.

They have stats for hundreds of jobs, including  earnings, expected job prospects, and so on.  They have national average for earnings, but you usually also get state and local averages (look for a link to state and local data at the bottom of the page for each occupation).

  4. why dont you contact one of the major horse studs, like..... coolmore or darley, im sure if you explain what your after they be to happy to help!
