Question:

Thoroughbred Question -- my horse...?

I own a Thoroughbred horse who is registered, etc. However, I'd like to find out more information about him. He's out of the Kentucky Derby winner, Sunny's Halo. I don't have his papers, because his previous owners refused to send them to me when I bought him. I contacted the Jockey Club and was able to get his pedigree for $50. But that really doesn't help much. I know he was raced a few times, and would like pictures of it, but have no clue who to contact about that either.

He ran at Lonestar Park. In May 2001 and again in 2002. His racing name was Sunny's Britches.

Any help on getting any sort of information on this horse would be appreciated.

  1. Contact the Jockey Club for information on your horse's parentage, and you can contact the tracks he raced at for his racing records. BTW, Newmarket is right- your horse is BY Sunny's Halo, who is a stallion, and out of his mother or dam. The MARE gives birth, the stallions don't.

As an alternate idea, you may want to go to the website of the Blood Horse magazine, and ask them about your horse's racing record. They tend to keep statistics on horses which ran well for quite a long time in their archives.  Hope that helps.

  2. If you know where your horse raced you can contact the tracks photography and they may be able to trace win photos for you.

I know several people who have done this and gotten the win photos.

The Jockey Club does not keep this type of info only the track where the win was would have it.  The wins would be listed on his papers if they were kept up to date. But just knowing the horses name and when they raced and where you should be able to get photos.

  3. have you tried TVG?  for pictures.  seems they would have alot of film.....

  4. Firstly, your horse is BY Sunny's Halo.  A horse is always by the stallion and out of the dam - she's the one that gives birth after all!!

You could have got your horse's pedigree for free here: http://www.pedigreequery.com/sunnys+brit...

I do not know where you can find pictures of him racing, perhaps once you have got hold of his full race record you can contact the relevent courses to see if there is anything on file.  Alternatively you could try whoever trained him

  5. The jockey club should be able to help you out with that information as well. They keep records on all TBs raced in the US.  Best of luck!
