Question:

Thoroughbred and harness handicapping?

Hi,

When i open up a track program, what are the ONE or TWO things I should look at when comparing one horse to another. I have no experience doing this and I may go to the raceway this weekend. I would get confused if I analyzed all there is to analyze, so what should i hone in one. The track conditions are going to be hot and humid, with no relative rain in the forecast. Also picking trifectas and superfecticas, do i change my analysis if i want to pick one winner per race for several races or pick 3 winners in one race ? thanks so much for any help

  1. check out bfal horseracing or www.horseracinggold.org.uk for great info in their forum

  2. since you have no experience i would avoid the tri's and super's.  go to drf.com to learn about handicapping the throughbreds and ustrotting.com for harness.

  3. If you are only going to look at one or two things, look at how often the horses finished in the money in their previous races.  If a horse has won a lot of races, he's more likely to win than a horse than horses that have not experienced similar success.  Also, look at the speed numbers.  Horses that put up higher numbers are generally going to be better performers than those who have recorded lower wins.  I agree with the previous answer, if you haven't beet much before, I'd stay away from the tris and supers.  Bet win/place/show and maybe exactas for now.

  4. forget about the form book if it's your first time, take a certain amount of cash with you, have fun and don't go overboard, also be prepared to lose,
