The Hamburg manager has admitted that his team lacked the quality against the German champions and deserved to lose.
Hamburg suffered their first league defeat under manager Thorsten Fink this weekend when they were downed comprehensively by Borussia Dortmund with a 5-1 score line. The loss marked the end of Fink’s unbeaten nine-match run in the Bundesliga with his side now only two points away from the relegation play-off place.
Fink claimed that Hamburg were poor throughout the course of the 90 minutes and deserved to lose in the end with the way they played. He insisted that the side did not show the urge to win and were punished by the opposition for the negative mindset.
The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Basel-c39079 manager expressed his disappointment on the display and admitted that the team failed to live up to the expectations of the fans. He called for improvement in the remaining matches of the season if the side has to end the season in the top-half of the table.
“We played very badly and I think we respected Dortmund too much, though I don't know why. We weren't brave enough and we'll have to work on that this week. At times we lost 60 per cent of our challenges, which isn't good enough,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
On the other hand, Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp hailed his side for the sensational win at Imtech Arena and admitted that the win was very important as the team is now level on points with Bayern Munich at the top. However, he admitted that the margin of win could have been bigger if the players had not missed chances initially in the game.
“We wanted to get to 37 points and we did so in impressive style. When we missed so many chances at the beginning I thought it was going to be one of those games where we do everything right but don't win,” he concluded.
Thorsten Fink’s next test will be a crucial home game against Hertha http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Berlin-c7536 at the Olympiastadion, in search of their fifth win of the season. They are currently 14th on the standings table with 19 points.
