Do the machines recognise the weight of a coin or just the shape, depth etc.?

Also if the machines can tell the weight of a coin, to what accuracy? 0.01g or further?

Thanks x

  1. They are very hard to swindle.

  2. I have no idea, but thats a bloody good question, i would love to know myself and then chuck any coin shaped metal in them!

  3. Size and weight

  4. They are quite clever, first it sorts the coins by shape (slots in it let all the pennies in one pile, 2 pence's in another....). Magnets sort out all the magnetic coins from non magnetic ones, they are weighed etc. all as part of the electronics inside.

I'm not sure of the accuracy of the scales inside but they arnt to 0.01g because coins get chipped as they are used which can make that much difference in weight to them
