For me personally ,I'd say at 27-28 I began to think and function as an adult ( rather than an overgrown teen-ager)

How about you ?

  1. I'm 16. I don't think of myself as an adult yet. I still depend on and live with my parents. I'm not self-sufficient and my only serious responsibilities are my pets and my schoolwork.

When I was younger-- in middle school, for instance-- I thought of myself as a lot more mature than I actually was. When I go back and read what I wrote in my journals at that time, I feel embarrassed because I am now a completely different person and significantly more mature. But I've learned my lesson; whoever I am now is NOT who I will be in 2 years and however mature I might think myself, I'm not all that mature.

  2. i am 24, am working full time and i have a child.

i'm more grown up than most people, thanks.

and for the record, i know some over 30 somethings that need to grow a little, so you can't generalize.

  3. I think I'm more grown up than other people my age, but not completely.

  4. Hmm I dunno, I just turned 28, I dont feel much differently than I ever did, but I do strive to be more mature in my actions and decisions than I did when i was in my early 20's.

I think being grown up can happen at any age depending on each individual person.  Some people are grown up as teens... some never truly grow up..

  5. I'm 30 now and I began to think and function as an adult around 22ish.

  6. Well, I'm 25, i don't know whether I am grown up but i become more refined and defined with age, slow brewed extra matured.

  7. Your brain does not fully mature until you're in your mid-20's.  That explains a lot.  That's why you felt ready to function as an adult at 27-28 - your brain was telling you you were ready.

That's about the time I felt ready to become an adult, too.

  8. I think it is relative as I have met some incredibly immature and callow 52 year olds and some incredibly mature and insightful 17 year olds. It also depends on what you measure maturity by. Though one may have a job, an apartment and is self sufficient, this does not indicate 'maturity' as such. You are responsible and independent, yes but there are also kids and kid prodogies at age 7 that have those traits. You may still be the person that laughs at the ribald joke or delights in schoolyard bullying or puts others down if you feel threatened. That is not very mature to me. I am nineteen but I do know that appearances can be deceiving and one must probe deeper into who a person is to discover their maturity. Just beacsuase a person is older then me does not automatically mean I should confer absolute authority to them or the status of 'oracle of wisdom'! I'll wait and understand their character first.

  9. I am 36, I am still an immatured person at heart.  I enjoyed this till recently.

My wife is making my life miserable as an immatured person for the last 2 yrs of our 5 yr married life so far.  (She didnt fully realize it during the first 3 yrs it seems)  Now I have to grow up and I dont like it.

My son 4 yrs is okay with my present level of maturity I guess.

  10. 17-ish.  I left home then, and never depended on my parents again.  I always had an "old soul".

  11. 28,29.

  12. I considered myself "grown up" when I was 14.

  13. I had my own apartment, car, bills and job at the age of 16. I was a functioning adult.  Better than most, at least....lol

  14. Im 24, i am living on my own (with wife), working full time and have two children

    I feel like an Adult
