I have been holding off on this a while, to see if it works. Am thinking about getting a magicjack.

I assume more people have it now since it came out. Give me some feedback on how it works for you. I have been keeping a landline as a spam phone, and am thinking of replacing it with a magic jack. Would it be a good idea. Are there any big issues that would make it not a good idea?

  1. I've been using Magic Jack for about two months, and have been more than pleased. No problems, very easy to install, etc. One of the first things I have purchased via TV that really works.

Start up when turning on PC for the day is a little slow, not horrible, just a little slower than withouth Magic Jack.

  2. I've been using MJ for several months.

Pros: cheap calls, easy to hook up, simple to use, add the MJ to a server that never gets turned off and you have constant connection. you get a phone number that maybe out of your area, select one that is in the center of your target base and callers will think you are local.

Cons: too much echo! in the business, we call this "slippage" and is caused by synconization or lack of. with all the echos, you cannot use the VOIP line for fax. You cannot get a number for all areas. Sometimes, callers need to call long distance to call you.

  3. I have had one for about 2 months and it works great, but some people have reported problems with it.  I think it mostly has to do with upload bandwidth or software conflicts.  The MJ seems to dislike Nero and Norton and there may be others.  Advantages include very cheap service, free unlimited calling in the US and Canada, and unlike Skype you can use a regular telephone.  Disadvantages might be no area code where you live, spotty service or other technical glitches and lack of customer service.  For me, it works almost perfectly and I did replace my land line with it.  The only way to know if it will work for you is to order one and test it out.

  4. I use a Panasonic DECT 6.0 phone with multible extension!

the only con is the computer gotta be on "ON"...but thats no biggie for me....one of my laptop is always on anyways! just take the monitor off so it will not use much energy...

the MagicJack came out about last year in May/07

yes....its a good deal....if that's what you want....you can call anyone for free in the US and Canada for free....land line or cellphone!! I have one for over 1 year now and love it!

you just put the MagicJack into your USB port and use any old analog phone and make calls....!

the MJ software install when you put the MJ n your USB post....with the software and also a softfone if you wanna use it !

I use it since last year, and so far I love it! but you gotta know what you really want out of this gizmo! I use it strictly for travel and as a 2nd line in my house!

Don't expect too much from MagicJack....its not a phone service per se.....!

I had no problems installing it...matter-of-fact ....the install was faster and much more easier then my other VoIP service!

Land Phones its really easy to use....like a VoIP service (Internet phone)

but you computer got to be on at all times for it to work!!

You gotta download their software....but its very easy and you don't need to do nothing else...! I have it since last year...! so far I love it...I take it on vacation to other countries so I can call back for free with an US area code! Make sure you use another user account and not the admin account...also if you have trouble...check your device manager....don't do your iPot stuff at the same time...!

all you get is the Magic Jack...the rest you learn on your on, or at the MJ forum!

You will be up and running within 5 minutes....you can ask here questions when you get it going!! There are alot of little things you have to know........for it to work just right!!

the most important thing with the MJ...it all depends on your ISP provider....! I use other VoIP on my computer, but the MJ was the easiest to install...
