Corinthians 1:18-19

For the preaching of the cross is to them who perish foolishness (mOria, Gr). ; but unto us who are saved it is the Power of God.

  1. Yes : I agree, so simple a Wayfaring Man or a Child can understand:

  2. Because God put Himself on the cross for us on our behalf............By His power He saves us from eternal torment

  3. The cross was derived from the Pagans.

  4. Regarding the answers posted here, there is nothing Biblical about the cross being a symbol of the Christ. Someone mentioned of the blood that was shed – that has nothing to do with a “redemption” or atonement. Jesus who became a Christ after his realization that sin was un-real and never happened (there is only error, not sin. Sin implies that there could never be a reconciliation to God even through “innocent” sacrifice).  The altar of sacrifice is within us, not a cross. Our alter inside is where we go to give up all judgment, all error. We can mentally lay down our judgments and errors on an “altar” if you will – give up all those things that make man suffer; all of our erroneous concepts, all our sadness and hate.  Those things don’t belong to us anyway ;-).

    ***Edit***

It's a shame that people do not have a clue as to what Jesus really said and meant.

  5. Romans 1:16  I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile.

1 Thessalonians 1:4-5  For we know, brothers loved by God, that he has chosen you,  (5)  because our gospel came to you not simply with words, but also with power, with the Holy Spirit and with deep conviction. You know how we lived among you for your sake.

2 Corinthians 10:3-5  For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does.  (4)  The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds.  (5)  We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

  6. Because the Cross is where the blood was shed , it is the power to salvation

The Cross was the Altar of God's final sacrifice

  7. I think it all started with that scary movie... um, the excorsist.. before that, the cross was powerless!

  8. The power that is found in the cross is our submission to it. Paul states in (Gal 2:20a)  "I am crucified with Christ......". His flesh was bound hand and foot and could do nothing but submit to the will of God. God did not make Paul do this, Paul did this knowing that this was the only way to overcome his carnal flesh, and gain the power of the resurrection found only in Christ.

God Bless you sister for providing us with a Spirit lead question.

Give this sister a star so her message can get out to others and we all might learn something.

  9. Cuz on that cross He washed away the sins of the entire world if they will accept it!!!!!!!!

  10. I think you should take a "second shot" at reading the Bible.  Honestly I can't follow what you write.

    Thanks,

    Buster

No, no.  When Jesus says, "Jump!", we ask, "How high.".
