  1. The guards are there for a reason. The biggest reason is to keep road grime, mud, and moisture from deteriorating the soft parts like hoses and belts. Additionally you may in wet weather get enough water into the engine compartment to short out the ignition and leave you stranded. Trust me, If they were not necessary the manufacturer would not go to the expense of fitting them.

  2. Splash guards are really not necessary in the sense that they will keep your car rust free. Salt , water, dirt ,grime will still attach your car even with splash guards. Most people have them on there car  to keep stones and pebbles from chipping there paint. Best policy is to wash your car often if you want to keep it nice and to hose down those areas real good where the flaps go when you wash your car. Your question was REALLY necessary ? , I say NO. If you want to protect the paint from chips i'd put them on my car.

  3. Either get new ones from the dealer or an aftermarket set because they do keep the rocks and debris from destroying the side of the vehicle....

Also if the vehicle is under warranty they will replace them at no charge.......
