I'm planning on moving to Tokyo next year and I wanted to find a place somewhere that is known for having a lot of foreigners, I've always had the image/impression that Roppongi is where "all the foreigners go"..For anyone thats been there for business, traveling, just like the country in general and know about the Tokyo area could someone offer me some advice?

Also-I already know about the bases or whatever its called where there is like a small community that only foreigners can live in

  1. It depends on what type of foreigners you are talking about. Certain areas (such as Nishi-Kasai in Eastern Tokyo) has the largest population of East Indians, Hiro and Idabashi have a large population of French and other european, Omote Sando, Roppongi and Azabu Juban have a large wealthy ex-pat community of Americans, some parts of Yokohama known as "the bluff" also have a large community of ex-pats and ex-pat housing.  There are many foriegners living in Chiba, especially Makuhari Bay town and Shin-Urayasu and also a large community of missionaries and their families in Higashi-Kurume since the Christian Academy of Japan is in that area.  I know Rokko Island in Kobe has a lot of foreigners as well but I wouldn't know so much about other areas of Japan.

  2. Expats who can afford it live in the Yokohama bluffs. The Kabukicho area seems to have a lot of Chinese residents, but I'm not suggesting you hang out there. Yokohama Chinatown seems more like a Chinese theme park than a real community these days.
