Thought Worthy headed to Doncaster to compete in the St. Leger in September
Jockey William Buick is gearing up to ride, Thought Worthy, in the Ladbrokes St. Leger Stakes at Doncaster on 15th September, 2012, at the back of a fourth place finish in the Group 1 Investec Derby on 2nd June,
2012.
John Gosden’s charge tried his level best to conquer the track and despite his best efforts, he finished in fourth place, eleven lengths behind winner and race favourite, Camelot.
The second place was secured by the David Lanigan trained, Main Sequence, whereas the A.P O’Brien trained Astrology finished in third place, a short-head behind the runner-up.
Buick was immensely pleased with his fourth place finish, and believes that given enough time, the runner will show improvement as he stated that:
"I don't think he had any problems at all, he ran very well and I was very proud of him."
He further added: "It was a straight-forward race and he ran as well as I could have hoped, to be honest. Obviously the winner, Camelot, is an exceptional horse and different class in his age group, certainly. Main Sequence and Astrology are solid
horses too, and he'll improve. Come September, he might just be right for Doncaster."
At Doncaster, Thought Worthy will have to bring all he has to the track, as Camelot will be aiming for a victory in the St. Leger in order to win the English Triple Crown.
Camelot had already landed two magnificent victories, one in the 2,000 Guineas Stakes and the other in the Investec Derby.
Buick also mounted the John Gosden trained, The Fugue, in the Group 1 Investec Oaks.
The duo claimed a placed finish as they finished third, ¾ of a length behind the winner, Was.
Buick was less pleased with the performance of the daughter of Dansili , out of mare Twyla Tharp, as she could have delivered a much better performance.
The jockey said that she got squeezed out and had an unlucky day; ending up third was quite disappointing. The filly’s future races have not been decided as the jockey stated that they will be decided by the owner and the trainer.
