Thought Worthy heading to Epsom after succeeding in the Poptelecom.co.uk Fairway Stakes
It seemed to be a good day for owner George Strawbridge, trainer John Gosden and jockey William Buick as, Thought Worthy, notched an impressive victory on 19th May, 2012, at Newmarket.
With this success, he is on his way to the Investec Derby, due to take place at Epsom on 2nd June, 2012.
The son of Dynaformer, out of mare Vignette, showed what he is truly made up of in the Poptelecom.co.uk Fairway Stakes (Listed Race), where he entered as a joint favourite with Noble Mission, who comes from the same pedigree as, Frankel.
Both of these runners had a winning shot of 15-8, but it was Thought Worthy, who took the victory and broke through the wire, a neck before Noble Mission.
The third place was secured by Rugged Cross, who completed the race ¾ of a length after the runner-up.
The victory was a huge boost of confidence for the runner and his connections, as he will be compete over a larger distance in the next race.
The winning trainer expressed his pleasure and told the media that: "You don't need a lot of runners to have a h**l of a finish. He showed a lot of guts and we are very happy with him.
"He is screaming out for a mile and a half. He is still in the Derby and the owner is a sportsman - he will make the final decision. The King Edward VII (at Royal Ascot), we could look at that, and the owner likes that race on Town Moor (the St Leger)
as well. He will have one more run and we will then freshen him up."
The three-year-old bay colt has truly blossomed in his short-career, as he has two victories and a finish as a runner-up in his three starts.
Thought Worthy comes from the same pedigree as, Lucarno, who had an incredibly successful career. Ideally, he should follow in the footsteps of his big brother and score some impressive wins and with his form, that is not a distant dream.
