Thought fellow horse adorers would appreciate this!?

From time to time, people tell me, 'lighten up, it's just a horse,' or,'that's a lot of money for just a horse'. They don't understand the distance traveled, the time spent, or the costs involved for 'just a horse.' Some of my proudest moments have come about with 'just a horse.' Many hours have passed and my only company was 'just a horse,' but I did not once feel slighted. Some of my saddest moments have been brought about by 'just a horse,' and in those days of darkness, the gentle touch of 'just a horse' gave me comfort and reason to overcome the day. If you, too, think it's 'just a horse,' then you will probably understand phrases like 'just a friend,' 'just a sunrise,' or 'just a promise.'

'Just a horse' brings into my life the very essence of friendship, trust, and pure unbridled joy. 'Just a horse' brings out the compassion and patience that make me a better person. Because of 'just a horse'

  1. Oh my!! You spoke for me. Our horse Ruby has gotten me through so many Bad and GOOD times. Now we are their for her. She was badly injured 6Mon ago. Some people think I am nuts for the time and money spent on(just a horse). To me she is just one of the best things that has ever happened to me. She loves her just a person and I love my just a horse!!!

  2. Thats well good =)

  3. nice point of view :)

  4. that was beautiful and i totally agree :)

  5. Well your friend is soo right my horse is the best friend i have ever had no dog or human can replace her she had an injured shoulder muscle when i bought her they told me are u nuts it won't compete or jump nice! Now her shoulder fully recovered and we're competing really nicely and even when i fall off her i give her a nice pat and some carrots after the competition!

  6. Amazing...

  7. I have felt the same way too.The proud moments the saddest times.Mysteries solved. Nothing makes a person feel as good inside as looking on the outside of a horse. Don't know who this quote is from but it's an old one Some people think that horses are  human and they aren't/To put human qualities on a horse would be disrespect. Horses don't have personalities as they are not persons they have character of a special animal that have plowed out fields,Run with everything they had at racetracks, jumped the moon and do their job in show arenas and carried us across the globe and sometimes fed us humans.I think sometimes they understand us on a basic animal level better than we will ever understand them in their pure simplicity. Sometimes they are smarter than we are, they don't sweat the small stuff.Know when to run when in danger and keep out of the noonday sun and wean their foals to face life. It's just that some of us connect to that spirit or primal soul or whatever it is a horse has.Like an understanding or knowing without words. When I hear "just a horse" I cannot explain to the speaker,I'd be wasting my time but think what they are missing. The rest of us are called Horsemen and Horsewoman.

  8. It is nice that you are a horse lover, but what is the question, of course a horse is a horse, but it is a horse not a person, and you seam to be treating them as people. All horses people need to remember what a horse is. No I am not be a cynic, I have had horses all my like, gave my pony rides in the back set of my car. My sister borough in her horse in the house in a bad storm. and I have felt bad bury my horses over the years, but they are still horses, and do not take the place of family and friends.

  9. that was lovely!

  10. Thank you for posting this! It was beautiful, and yes, it does rlly sum up a bond between horse and rider very nicely.

  11. That was beautiful and so true. Thanks for sharing!

  12. Brilliant. Thanks

  13. Lovely - says it all

  14. That's a beautiful way to put it!  So many people never "get it" and it's sad.  My best friend of over 40 plus years, never "got it" UNTIL...  About five years ago, I invited her to drive down for a visit.  For the first time in several decades she actually got on the freeway and made the three plus hours to come and visit me and my late hubby.  I introduced her to my hubby's gelding and for the first time in 28 years, she got on a horse again.  She went back home and started taking riding lessons (She'd had a thoroughbred gelding that her trainer showed and trained back in the mid 70's and sold it when she'd gotten engaged.).  She'd never gotten to bond with this horse, somebody else rode it, worked it and basically all she did was play groom to it.

To make a long story short, while she was taking lessons, she met a little pinto gelding that she fell in love with.  This time she's the one doing the riding, schooling, etc and the bond is there.  It's so cute to get an instant message from her telling me what her horse did that day or to calm her down when some idiot's said something about her little horse that's upset her.  For decades she had to put up with me doing that to her and never understood the relationship, now finally she "gets it"!

  15. Thats a beautiful verse, and so very true.

Its something only people who own horses will ever understand.

By biggest pet hate of 'non horsey people' comments, are the ones that go something like 'why would you want to waste money on a horse, you should have cows, they earn you money'

There is nothing I could possibly say to make them understand why I 'waste' money on my horse. Maybe I should show them this verse!

  16. This reminds me of a beautiful quote i read not so long ago,

"In the quiet light of the stable, you hear a muffled snort, the stamp of a hoof, a friendly nicker. Gentle eyes inquire, "How was your day old friend?" and suddenly, all your troubles fade away." ~ Author Unknown

where would we be without our dear companions?

    Thankyou for sharing :)

  17. Im no horse adorers but I'm like you too, only mine companion of childhood was nothing but PS1.....

Funny? For me not.Everybody got their own stories

  18. I can barely see to write this. You just made me cry. That is  beautiful. Thank you so much for sharing. I think that person and I have the same horse.

  19. I can relate to this post!!!

my "just a horse" has been a great form of therapy for my 10 yo nephew who is mildly autistic, and has selective mutism.

He talked for the first time (around the end of the school year) at school, and I would dare say it never wouldve happened without having my "just a horse".

She is part of this family unit...and will be till she crosses rainbow bridge.

  20. thats sweet. Unfortunatly I dont know what its like to have a horse companion but I wish I did. i hope horse people never take that for granted.

  21. i got that email too.. its great. i love it. thanks for sharing :)

  22. love the post it is lovely and so true i have been to h**l and back and have only ever wanted to be with my 1 true family and friend (my horse) but some people just dont understand nomatter how much you explain it to them but i have now given up trying to explain, i have had boyfriends in the past say to me its me or the horse and every time i say sorry but there is no compertition my horse wins every time,

i would rather be without a man and have my horse than without my horse to have a man

  23. Thank you for posting... just what i needed today.... my "just a horse" was soaking wet today from the rain when i got to the paddock, and i stood in the rain while he ate his dinner because he refuses to eat under the shelter for god knows what reason, and as i stood there  wondering why on earth i am freezing my butt off staring out over the dam he nudged me and tucked his head under my arm, and gave me a big snuggle hug.... you know when people say and that made it all worth while... well it did... i felt very proud and privilidged to have my very own horse :) just thought i would share... thanks again great post...

  24. Made me cry!  Reminded me of my old boy!  When I was happy he was happy, when I was sad, he listened and jigged around and squealed etc, until I could not help but laugh at him!  I spent many hours with him to get away from an abusive situation!

  25. nice thought i love horses and their my best bud

  26. I REALLY like that an dit does sum up a bond between the horse and rider!

Like people who are not "horse" people do not understand that horses and not "just horses" they are special animals in our lives who bring us happiness day to day and much more then just happienness they provide unconditional love!

    Thanks For Sharing!

  27. That's so true, I do alot of riding. If people think my life is going to be about "just a horse", I would take pride in them jumping off a roof right now!?
