Question:

Thoughtful Questions To Ask During Interview?

Tommorow I have a second interview for a support position in a high school. It's the media room manager and I'm responsible for helping students on the computers. It's a pretty easy position and I'm only applying for it because the budget cuts have made it hard to find teaching positions right now. It's such a pretty simple position that I'm not even sure why they have second interviews for it.

My question is what questions should I ask after the interview that make me look interested in the position. I don't need to know more about the school or the position because I've already been told everything and I've researched as much as I can about the school.

  1. Some I would  ask are, can I help prepare multimedia lessons or activities to help the teachers? Would this be something used in your building? Which departments use the media room most often? What dates will the room be used for state testing? District testing? What software is on the computers? Can you hyper link great teacher and student sites to a folder on the computers to assist teachers and students? Is there a budget for new software or items that I will be responsible for? How can I assist the staff of your building the most in this position?

I can not believe your area has enough teachers, everywhere else is short and going to the Philippines or else where to recruit.

    duties?  what are the expectations?

do u have a access/ homeroom that u have charge of??

what programs/ blockign software are used to prevent students from doign certain things...

will i have to look after studyhalls

  3. I'm not in your field, but I always ask "what is your attrition rate?"  In other words, does a large percentage of your workforce quit each year?

Another good one is, "Can you describe what would be a typical day for me, if I were offered this position and accepted it?"  In other words, how much time would be spent in meetings, how much time working on the computer, etc. and what software and other tools are used?

  4. How many call out days do you get?

  5. 1. Tell them you want the job

    2. FIRM HANDSHAKES *god I hate fish hand shakes*

    3. Act interested.

    4. Get a BASIC IDEA of what they are wanting.

    5. When will they be making a decision

after the interview, you send a card saying thank you. You grease the wheels thoroughly. If you don't get the job, KNOW that it wasn't because of a lack of effort

  6. Can you perhaps ask how you can assist teachers and students in implementing technology into daily lessons or assisting special education teachers with how to assist with accommodations in reference to technology? Just a thought.

  7. What professional development/continuing education programs do you offer? You might know this, but it shows that you are progressive and interested in learning new things to improve your teaching.

  8. I can certainly tell you what questions NOT to ask... don't ask about sick days, personal days, your hours, vacation, or even your rate of pay.  Consider asking questions like, "What are some of the problems students are having with the computers?"  (This could easily lead into some follow-up questions for you after you get a resonse).   Another idea:  "What are some goals you would like me achieve in this position?"

  9. What is the procedure when there is a technical or software problem?

Will I be required to install subject specific software?

Will I receive training on subject specific software?

What is the procedure when I find a pupil abusing the equipment/accessing unsuitable websites?

Will I be required to supervise a 'drop in' facility for students to use the room without a teacher present?
