Thoughts from any Coastie or Reservist. ?

Question

Was thinking of enlisting in the reserves. I always thought about the Coast Guard but life had other plans. Now mid 30s I have the opportunity and I see they are accepting older enlistees in the reserves. I have a Bachelors in Science but would be fine serving as a petty officer.

Would like thoughts enlisting, opinions on a good rating, etc..

I entered as an Officer and a Reservist in the US Coast Guard. I have been in 8 years. The Coast Guard offers a diverse set of roles and you have remarkable control over your career.

The only negative is as a Reserve Officer in the CG you may have to travel to your duty station as you advance up the ranks.
