Question:

Thoughts on Ryan Dinwiddie / Kevin Glenn / offensive coaching?

It was an ugly, messy game, and both teams deserved to lose. The Rider receivers dropped soooo many balls, and the Bomber QB certainly showed his lack of experience in his composure.

The Bomber D certainly came through. In the end, even if the Bombers had Kevin Glenn, they still may not have won the Cup. But I think Glenn wouldn't have made the rookie mistakes that Dinwiddie did. Too bad Dinwiddie got thrust into such a high pressure situation for his first start, I think he may be good in the future. He tosses an accurate long ball. But yesterday, he hung onto the ball way too long, and panicked any time someone was in his face. A veteran would eat the ball rather than risk the interception / fumble. A veteran would have run the three yards for the first down instead of try to force an only slightly longer completion. Etc.

I also thought the play-calling was rather suspect. I would have figuered that the offensive coordinator would change things up in the second half. Thoughts?

  1. While they probably shoulda changed things up a bit, you hafta wonder how much of the playbook they were using with a guy making his first ever start.  Yes, he's been on the team all year, but how well does he know all the plays after taking backup reps in practice?

  2. Both offences were pretty poor. I am a huge Rider fan so I am obviously thrilled with the final score. I think Glenn would have made a huge difference though. I am not so sure there would be partying in Regina today if he would have played. I think much of the play calling you are speaking from is because of who Wpg had at QB. I think one day that kid will be a great QB but he was facing a pretty tough defence in a big game. Tough way to start your Canadian career for sure.

  3. Dinwiddie reminded me of the failed Vince Feragamo episode in Montreal.  Vinny never got used to the extra db.  I think Dinwiddie had the same problem.  He may adjust to this in time but, he may also have passed himself out of a job.

  4. If Glenn had been there, he would have picked the Rider defence apart.  Dinwiddie showed too much....He knew which receiver he was going to throw to, and never looked at anyone else.   Rider defence caught on to that pretty quick..they knew where he was going to throw right from the start.  That explains 3 interceptions by one player.  As well, in the first half, Dinwiddie outplayed Joseph.  Rookie mistakes...

run the three yards for the first down, rather than throw the interception,  and the game was in their reach.  I still say that the Bombers are the better team...even without Glenn.

  5. Didnwiddie's previous play was 24 passes, period.  Considering that, I believe he didn't look too bad.  He is a quarterback for the future, and put a scare into the Riders, without a doubt.

With Glenn at the helm, it would have been a different game.
