Question:

Thoughts on Valtteri Filppula?

So, anybody want to give their opinions on what his contract will look like? He filed for arbitration and will be final August second, but Holland has never had a player go into it, and gave them a contract before it. So I'm not to worried.

Also, how good of a player do you think he will become in years to come? Will he stay with Detroit for his career and turn into a role player?

  1. Frankly? Depending on how arbitration goes, either he will be gone this year, or someone else will be in his place. The Wings can't afford to keep him without losing some salary. Hossa pretty much guaranteed that. Unless arbitration sides completely with Detroit, which is unlikely, look for a trade. It might not be Filppula, but something's gotta give.

  2. With Ken Holland at the helm I would expect the situation to be handled pretty cleanly.  I very much doubt Filps is done in Detroit especially after his pretty decent showing last year.  I would expect the Wings to sign him to like a 3 year $5 mil deal or somewhere in the ballpark.  I think he will become a very decent player in time, but I wouldn't look for him to oust the Wings top center anytime soon.  I expect him to develop into a very good 2nd line Center though.

  3. He will be a WING and I am betting his salary is around the 1.5mil a year for 2 to 3 years. Arbitration usually means a bunch less than what he would get on the Free Agent market. BUT it means he wanted to remain a Wing. He just wanted to get paid what  the NHLPA thought was acceptable for a guy in hos position. Chances are he was offered a little less than that and that he believes he can a bit more in arbitration and remain on the WINGS, where he wants to be.

  4. Other than all those syllables in his name,I like him.

He is a solid player and understands the game.

Wouldn't it be great if Columbus somehow stole him from the mighty Wings.I would love it.

  5. hopefully he will stay. I say a 3 year 4.5 million dollar deal. Holland will make it work. If Filppula wants to win another cup then he should stay in Detroit.

  6. I think he is a great up and coming star.  Getting better and better each year.  19 goals last year?  Is he even old enough to drink from the Cup?  He has a bright future ahead.

I think Holland will give him a 3 year deal... so he wants... somewhere worth 1.5 - 2 million a year...

  7. Well...Nips said that there's a bunch of him in the league. Which I agree to an extent, but Filppula is just one of those guys, that if you let go, you're going to be biting yourself in the behind. Just like what happened to Many legace. Flip is a center but if you notice he plays excellent defensively. He knows where the puck is and he's always aware. Rarely makes mistakes, and i think he's a good guy to have around. i don't think that he'll stay with Detroit though, but he will have a big impact on the team with this coming year. This year he will shine, and He'll get paid the big bucks next year. He's not stupid he knows what he's doing.

  8. He's probobaly gonna be traded
