A hitherto unrecorded incident involving Kenneth Grahame's immortal character, Mr. Toad, from his famous literary classic, THE WIND IN THE WILLOWS. It's 40 verses long, but . I'm going to cut it down as I type. Could you hold off on the comments till I'm finished, thanks?

ODE TO A TOAD

I was walking in the country

One fine day,

When, most suddenly, beside me,

Came a voice which pleaded, "Hide me...

If I'm caught then woe betide me!"

It did say.

So I turned, and there beside me

Stood a toad.

Of all places I have been to,

Not one like it have I seen who

Had a skin of such a green hue

That it glowed.

But I must describe how strangely

He was dressed.

He had on a gown of cotton,

Which he looked extremely hot in;

Few I've seen so ill-begotten

And distressed.

So I said, "Calm down and tell me,

I beseech,

Of what thing it is that ails you,

Quick, before your poor heart fails you

And exhaustion then curtails you

Of your speech."

  1. didn't do anything for me, I ended upreading it in Gilbert and Sullivan timing.

  2. Humor means funny doesn't it....

  3. Wheres the humor?

  4. I trust this is not bashing. But I've taken the time to read most all of the poem just to be kind and understand the entertainment you meant for us, but In the first place, I don't like Toads any more than your poem liked the dark. (smile) So, I'm going to say thank you for your thoughts and continue my journey for the one poem I'm looking for.
