Question:

Thoughts on the American Olympic team's uniform during the opening ceremony?

I found it interesting (and so did the commentators) that both the men and women had identical dress. Blazer, trousers and cap for both genders.

Is there any reason to do this besides a sense of uniformity :S

Most countries seemed happy to have men and women in different dress styles. Just thought it was strange to see, thoughts?

  1. I was thinking the same thing, I would have preferred that they wore slightly different uniforms, but I suppose it didn't really matter. I hope they do well! And the show was ammmazing! :D

  2. It's pure sexism.  The men should have been able to exercise their right to wear skirts if they so desired, particularly if the women could wear trousers.

It would have been wonderful to see American men in skirts.

  3. we'll find what we're looking for, even if it's not there.  they ALL looked pretty good to me ~

  4. I don't know.  I think it would be better to give everyone choices.  Like have 3 or 4  bottoms to choose from and 3 or 4  tops.

  5. They call it a uniform for a reason

edit- probably supposed to look professional, not flattering or s**y

  6. I liked it. But it's worth pointing out that they dressed both sexes in clothes associated with men, not with women.

  7. I liked that they were all wearing the same uniform, there were so many American athletes that it would look too messy if they had to separate their uniforms in genders.  Plus, Ralph Lauren did a great job on designing the outfits...focusing on the American Tailoring and clean lines.

  8. better you'd put this in the olympic category.

  9. In China, most everyone wears trousers all the time except if they go out in the evening the ladies might (and might not) wear a traditional long gown.

Maybe the US team organisers wanted to be courteous to their hosts.

The athletes can wear what they want in their free time.

On 'company time' they wear the uniform they're given.

    Cheers :-)

  10. Those were some hideous uniforms and don't make Ralph Lauren look good.  Although, I've always thought their clothes suck anyway, so it didn't influence me at all.

It doesn't really bother me that much, although I did notice women wore skirts or dresses for a lot of countries, and in my opinion, they did look better.  But it really didn't take much to look better than the Americans did.

  11. Well since the USA is the land of equal opportunity they were given equally ugly outfits
