As a graphic designer by trade, I absolutely shrieked when I saw the London 2012 Olympics logo. I'm curious about thoughts from other designers, those in the arts and general Olympics junkies... how can it be defended?

  1. It truely is awful, were the people who came up with it drunk? The BBC did a poll on this. I think over 90% voted to change it.

They also ran a 'send us your alternatives' bit.

my fave is number 6 on this one and number 6 on the 'more of' link on the page

  2. I know they can get a little more creative than that.

  3. It is an eye sore, they better come up with something better. It hurts to look at that thing.

  4. It doesnt represent anything in my opinion and the color just gives your eye a pain. I think they should totally re-design it.

  5. "WTF"......I''ll say something more traditional, like an old loyalist cartoon

  6. lol i hope you're not serious... that would suck

    i mean, good god

    that's horrible

  7. I'm not a graphic designer myself but have an artistic eye, By checking my other questions you can see drawings i've made and posted up. I'm into art somewhat but now more than ever, and that is literally the worst olympics logo i have ever seen. It looks like a kindergartener drew it (and not in a good way). I don't know what they're trying to go for in this one, is it supposed to be a urban cultural look? Because it definitely missed its mark, i think in regards to something as traditional as the olympics they shouldn't try to redo what is already there. For example: In comic books we've all grown close to characters such as Batman and Superman. But if Christopher Nolen created a flying Batman with a silver suit, superpowers, no cape, and missiles shooting out of his wrists then the audience would be taken aback and utterly offended.  Well...the same goes with this logo but not as to the extreme of how the Batman example would of offended me lol.

  8. ( o _ 0 )  Dude, that looks like something I created when I was in preschool art class?  Of all the possible designs. Is that all the creativity London commercial artists could come up with?  Let's hope the games are better than the design.  Geeish Louise people!

  9. Everyone is gunna have to party like it's 1992 cuz that logo is SO late 80s/early90's.

So if you're down with that then it's good otherwise you're yearning for a 2010's logo.

  10. oh gorsh.... what ever happened to this one....

i like that one much better... this one is just sooo... idk.. ugly?

  11. Good Lord... is that really going to be the logo?!?... that's... no way... What!?!

EDIT:  I know it's 2012, but is it also a man and woman dancing?  I can't tell.

EDIT2:  I've been searching the web.  Most people say it's Lisa Simpson pleasuring Milhouse.

  12. lmao?

  13. They need to throw money and people at it to make it better (it worked for PR-China)

  14. As a londoner I gotta say that its pretty embarrassing . it  looks chinese tbh , maybe we are using one of their rejected designs to save us a few quid!

  15. Wow. This is pretty unoriginal and kind of a turn off. I hope it is not too late to go back to the drawing board. I agree with Kooties on this one.

  16. I like the idea of using the same design for the Olympic and Paralympics.
