My thought is that it's just a less efficient electric car.  Instead of storing the electrical energy in a battery and using it to directly power a 90% efficient electric motor, you're using the electrical energy to power an air compressor to store the compressed air in the car, which then drives a piston.   When you do a mechanical process like driving a piston, you also lose energy as heat to friction.

In other words, you're better off with an electric car.

Here's your research.  Figure out how much capacity the air cylinders can hold and you will find that it would be like buying a car with a 1/2 gallon gas tank.  The range on those things is about 20 miles, total, before you have to refill.  In addition, air compressors are very expensive to run.
