Thoughts on the name Mackenzie?

I think it's so pretty, but does it age well? Or does it only sound like a child?

Mackenzie I think is a gorgeous name. However, I would use it as a middle name (I love the name Peyton Mckenzie) and spell it with out the "a", even though it then looks like the male version. Mackenzie is a scottish name which means "Son/Daughter of Kenneth".

I think it's ok and if you like it that's great. My boyfriend wanted to call our baby that but I got put off by it being a brand of clothes as well.

I dislike all "mac" names being used as first names, especially for a girl. "Mac"s are in surnames for a reason. "Mac" means "son of"

It's a surname, and shouldn't be used for a girl's given name.

It does not age well. It sounds like a cutsy name that someone gave their daughter in 2008, when it was trendy.

It HAS been used a lot for boy's in the past.

I think it is a very pretty name, however it is really trendy right now.  I have three friends with little girls named Mackenzie, and when I worked in a day care center, it was definitely very widespread.  If you don't mind trendy, go for it!

I agree with Military Wife and Mommy. My name is Jennifer. -.- The Mac-Mac name when will it stop? If her name was Peyton Mackenzie as the third poster suggested, I would feel sorry for her. Look at this way "I'm Peyton Mackenzie." "I'm painting Mackenzie." Ha, ha. I think that's funny.

Mackenzie kind of seems like a name that would be only for a child, but you never know. When my sister was born in January, my step mom was all afraid of naming her Clair because she was afraid it didn't seem like the name of a baby. However, we just went with it and now it's perfectly normal. I think you'll find that if you name your child that, it's going to sound right because it's her name, no matter what.

Mackenzie is pretty, but like others have said it's a bit overdone these days. I have never met an adult Mackenzie, but I imagine there must be a few out there! I think it would age okay, we all grew up with our names that were originally intended for children!

Mackenzie is a last name and also used for boys AND girls. I am glad you think it's pretty.  I just think of bagpipes or plaid kilts. Personally I would not name my child a last name first name unless it was some kind of family name or my maiden name etc. It seems kind of random otherwise. But it does age well and does not only sound like a child's name.

allen- i would hope not! lol i'd not want to name my baby after an ex-drug addict. besides from that era and show, i would prefer Valerie to Mackenzie anyday!
