I am about to buy my first road bike. I would also like it to be a fixed gear. Could someone give me some feedback about this bike I found on craigslist?

  1. It looks like a decent deal for a fixed gear conversion.

A frame like that will last a long time and even scratches and dents won't effect it that much.  The crankset is a decent one (same one I use on my fixie) and I like how it works.

The places you'll want to really take a look at the bike in person before buying it are the wheels.  They aren't a high quality wheel.  The hubs look particularly low end (though I don't see a stamp on them for their brand, but they don't look like Formulas like most have).  Make sure the wheels spin true and smoothly (the bearings on those hubs will be the thing to go, not the hub itself).  You should also check for and dents or signs of the spokes pulling out of those rims since they don't have eyelets.

All in all I'd say it looks pretty good, but you should watch out for the things I mentioned.

Oh, a side note about sizing.  You want a fixie to fit a little small so make sure you fit the 53cm frame first.

  2. it great buy it thats all there is to it

  3. make sure the rims are good, if they arent the bike isn't worth anything...
