Threading CG-590

Cannot thread Singer CG-590 properly. Thread on underside of fabric keeps looping and knotting up. Have re-threaded the machine 7 times with no different outcome. Manual says thread not entering the upper tension disks correctly, but when I do it, it looks exactly like the illustration says it should. Help!
