Okay I made a mistake and over torqued the top nut on my headset and it messed up the starnut...question is what do I do? Do I just go to my bike shop and but a new starnut? Is it that easy? Hope you can help.

  1. No problem.  Just buy a new starnut.  They are not expensive.

Is the old one out?  If not, be careful in removing it.  Link below on how to do this.

  2. You will need the star nut tool,

Sets it at the right depth and aligns it in the steer tube.

Its not a cheap tool, cheaper to have a shop set it for you. If you bought the star nut I would set it for you for free.

    Here is the tool

I LOVE IT WHEN PEOPLE GIVE THUMBS DOWN BUT HAVE ZERO INFO TO OFFER.

  3. Sarge, just a thought if you don't already know...

You don't want to torque...let alone "over torque"...the cap on a threadless headset.  The cap is there to preload the headset adjustment.  The stem bolts can then be torqued after headset is adusted, with the stem thus holding the adjustment.

NOTE:  PERHAPS THE TARD THAT GAVE THE LOW RATING CAN PROVIDE SUPPORT FOR DOING SO.  IF YOU THINK MY INFORMATION IS WRONG, THEN STEP UP AND SAY SO.
