Threatening Vancouver Canucks host Anaheim Ducks – NHL Preview
The Vancouver Canucks have found their exploding rhythm just at the right time. They have already qualified for the playoffs and are very strong contenders for the President’s Trophy title. Furthermore, they have only three more games left to play in the
regular season and they could certainly carry winning momentum into the postseason.
On the other hand, Anaheim Ducks are already eliminated from the playoff contention and keeping their recent form in mind, it is very difficult to favour them against Canucks.
Canucks and Ducks are going to face each other on Tuesday, April 03, 2012, at Rogers Arena, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
Here is a look at both teams.
Canucks
They have clinched the National Hockey League (NHL) Northwest Division title and are leading the Western Conference with 107 points after 79 games.
At present, Canucks are on a six-game winning streak with the victories coming against Dallas Stars (2-1), Colorado Avalanche (3-2 in overtime), Los Angeles Kings (1-0), Avalanche (1-0), Stars (5-2) and Calgary Flames (3-2 in overtime).
Canucks’ coach, Alain Vigneault, said of his team:
"Our first goal, obviously, every year is to get into the playoffs. We were able to finish first in our division. Now, we're working on the other process; how high can we finish in our conference. There's a possibility that we can finish first, but what
we have to do is take care of business and that business is focusing on our next game against Anaheim."
Ducks
They have already been eliminated from the playoff contention and are ranked at 13th spot in the Western Conference with 77 points after 79 games.
Out of the last four games, Ducks have lost three and are currently on a two-game losing streak with the defeats coming against Phoenix Coyotes (4-0) and Edmonton Oilers (2-1).
After facing Canucks, Ducks will play a game against Edmonton Oilers and another against Calgary Flames.
Ducks’ right wing, Teemu Selanne, commented on his team not reaching the playoffs:
"The first half [of the season] was just so bad that we couldn't climb back into the playoff race. We always did before, but this time we ran out of gas."
Predictions
Canucks are favourites.
The sum of goals scored by both teams might stay under six.
If Ducks win, the winning margin will be less than two goals.
