In a phone interview with reporters, Teodoro assured that despite their initial information, security forces would remain to be vigilant against possible disruptions that day.

"No report has reached me. I don’t see any threat but you know, we continue to be vigilant...I don’t see any (threat from Left and Right) at this point in time but you know we continue to be vigilant," Teodoro said.

For its part, the Armed Forces National Capital Region Command (NCRCom) said it would be deploying its civil disturbance teams to augment police forces in securing vital sites from the expected hundreds of protesters come SONA day.

"We are not seeing any other threats (except) on the side of the rallyists only…that’s why we are deploying our CDM (civil disturbance management). That’s the concern in so far as security is concerned," said Capt. Carlo Ferrer, spokesman for the NCRCom.

Earlier, the Philippine National Police said a total of 6,250 cops and soldiers will be deployed in several areas in Metro Manila as part of security measures in time for the SONA.

Of the total number of security personnel, PNP National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) chief Director Geary Barias said 4,000 would come from his unit while about 600 would come from the NCRCom.

The rest will come from police forces in nearby provinces which include from Central Luzon, CALABARZON, Ilocos region as well as from the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), Barias said.

"They will be deployed in traditional SONA rally sites...most of the soldiers and police will be deployed at the vicinity of the Batasan Pambansa in Quezon City," Barias said in a press briefing at Camp Crame. - GMANews.TV
