Three Champions to encounter each other at the Giro di Castelbuono meet – Athletics news
The Giro Castelbuono meet, which is an annual road running event organised in Castelbuono, Italy, is set to offer a real feast to spectators this season, as three of the most formidable athletes in the world, Geoffrey Mutai, Gebre Gebremariam and Emmanuel
Mutai will compete in the meet.
The historical event that was first held in 1912, will observe the commencement of its 86th edition on July 26, on a track that stretches over a distance of 11.2 km.
Mutai, the long distance runner from Kenya, who is a specialist in road running events, boasts of the world marathon record for marking a stunning finish of two hours, three minutes and two seconds at the Boston Marathon, in April, 2011. However, since the
Boston track does not match the requirements of the IAAF, this record observed by Mutai went officially unrecognised. Other feathers in the cap of the strenuous runner include a win at the Monaco Marathon, Valencia Half Marathon and the RAK Half Marathon.
Gebremariam, another impeccable runner, hails from Ethiopia and is primarily a long distance runner. After making his marathon debut last year at the New York City Marathon where he clocked two hours, eight minutes and fourteen seconds, he also is being
considered as a strong contestant for the Castelbuono event.
Emmanuel Mutai, who is also a long distance runner like Geoffrey, hails from the land of fast runners, Kenya. He is a marathon specialist and is regarded as the fourth fastest man ever for a marathon distance. The major events that Emmanuel has bagged so
far are comprised of a top finish at the 2011 London Marathon and a two-time runner-up finish at the London and New York City Marathons.
While running at Castelbuono, the three champions will encounter each other for the first time in their careers. The track, which is known for producing fast results, will certainly make the race worth watching amid the last stretch that involves some strenuous
climbing. If the weather remains supportive, the run is expected to observe an interesting meet this year.
