Three Chiefs players Ben Moon, Chris Whitehead and Chris Budgen extend their contract
Front row trio Ben Moon, Chris Whitehead and Chris Budgen have become the latest players to extend their contracts with the Exeter Chiefs. Rob Baxter, head coach for the Chiefs, has expressed his pleasure after the three players signed their renewed contracts at Sandy Park.
Budgen has signed a renewed one year deal, while Moon and Whitehead have both penned a two year contract. This means that Baxter and Exeter have now signed deals with a total of thirteen of their current players.
Rob Baxter is glad to have these three in his squad for more rugby. He said, “In these three players we've got a microcosm of the whole team. They are three players who are from contrasting times in their careers; they come from different backgrounds; they're at different age groups and all have varying experience.” The Budgen, Moon and Whitehead combination is well put together and is causing problems for many defense lines. Baxter believes in all three and values each of them individually.
Talking about Chris Budgen he said, “Chris at 38 has been there and seen it all when it comes to rugby. He's also seen active service in Afghanistan, yet he seems to have a new lease of life with every season we give him.”Budgen, being the most experienced, has seen the Exeter Chiefs through thick and thin and will be servicing his club once again. His loyalty and resourcefulness have been proved by his consistent performances on the pitch.
Baxter also spoke about Moon, “He's a young guy who came through our academy, has been here a while and is starting to thrive in Europe and in the Premiership. In the last month to six weeks he's made massive strides.” Baxter has given Ben Moon maximum game time and has rarely sent him to the bench. Moon has been Baxter’s favorite since his debut.
Chris Whitehead, since joining the squad, has shown attacking style that has the opposition worried. Baxter explained Whitehead’s importance in the squad and said, “Chris has come in and impressed everyone with his enthusiasm and work ethic. He runs around the club like a buzz bomb and he flies around in training.”
The trio keeps opponents on their toes at all times and are game changers. It’s good news for the entire fan base of the Chiefs’ and for Baxter.
