Three Cincinnati Reds’ men clinch National League Gold Clove awards
The time to play baseball has ended in Major League baseball and recently, managers and game experts looked back at the 2010 season to recall which players took the gold and matched the best performances in the year. From basemen to outfielders to pitchers,
the list was long but only a few candidates had to be selected for the awards. With increments in salaries and stipulations tied to the rewards, all of the players in the National League were hoping to make it to the top list.
Fortunately for the Cincinnati Reds, three players from their squad took the Glove Awards to their den, following a composite display in the last season. For the General Manager (GM) at the club, the effort which went into playing every game in the league,
the achievement was rewarding. GM, Walt Jocketty particularly said, “When we built the team for this year, one of the things we emphasized was improving our defence. I think the result was very positive; the accomplishment by the team as a whole, but in particular
the three guys honoured today. As an organization, we are very pleased and also very proud of these guys.”
The three players who received the award were 2nd baseman – Brandon Phillips, 3rd baseman – Scott Rollen and pitcher – Bronson Arroyo. The votes came out from managers and coaches belonging to all 30 teams. The vested members of the
voting party submitted their selections for nominees by the end of the regular season. The only stipulation behind the whole process was that no manager or coach could vote for his own team player.
Bronson Arroyo who penned an extension deal with the Reds recently, was one unexpected figure to join the list as his contributions to the team made him a pivotal figure at the side. His 17 wins in the season was only just one indication of his prowess around
his players. He won the Gold Glove for top Pitcher and at the occasion he said, "It's just an honour to have one; I wasn't expecting it at all. I think it was definitely a shock. The only time I actually thought of it was while sitting on the top step of the
dugout with (pitching coach) Bryan Price. Sometime in August, he said, 'You know what? I think you have an outside shot at a Gold Glove.' I don't know why he thought that. It had never even crossed my mind once my entire career."
